The following are some signs that might alert you that someone you know may be affected by domestic violence: 

• ​They may have bruises or injuries or have frequent “accidents” for which they give vague explanations. These “accidents” sometimes cause them to miss work.
• Their partner controls all aspects of their life – finances, friends, social life, what they wear, who they see and speak to.
• They frequently cancel plans at the last minute giving short notice or vague excuses.
• They seem afraid of making their partner angry or need to constantly ‘keep the peace.’
• The partner ridicules them publicly or you sense hostility in their comments.
• The partner seems overly attentive, remains constantly by their side or is watchful about who they talk to.
• The partner may be overly possessive or jealous.
• Their children seem fearful or on edge in the partner’s company or at the mention of their name​.

Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting 2022 took place 20-25 June, in Kigali, Rwanda.

Leaders of Commonwealth countries travelled to Rwanda to reaffirm their common values and agree actions and policies to improve the lives of all their citizens. Decisions taken at CHOGM also guide the work programme of the Commonwealth Secretariat.

Commonwealth leaders meet every two years for CHOGM, which is hosted by different member countries on a rotating basis. Since 1971, a total of 25 meetings have been held, with the most recent being in the UK in 2018.

The #Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is happening in Kigali, #Rwanda on 20-25 June 2022.

The theme for #CHOGM2022 is ‘Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming.’ It was chosen because the diverse family of 54 Commonwealth countries work together to help achieve shared goals, like development, democracy and peace.

Leaders of the member countries are meeting to reaffirm their shared values and agree on actions and policies to improve the lives of all citizens.

Four Forums take place ahead of CHOGM to offer a wider opportunity for dialogue and debate, and to ensure the voices of women (#CWF), young people (#CYF), civil society (#CWPeople) and business (#CBF2022) are heard by leaders meeting in Kigali.

Commonwealth Women's Forum [VIDEO]

#Commonwealth Women's Forum takes place alongside #CHOGM2022 on 20-21 June, 2022. Delegates at #CWF are discussing solutions to address pressing challenges affecting women and girls across the #Commonwealth, and ensure member countries have robust policies and programmes to meet gender equality targets by 2030.

Proposed solutions from the two-day forum will inform Commonwealth leaders’ discussions and decisions on ending gender inequality – ultimately involving women at the highest level of policymaking to address challenges directly affecting them.

Commonwealth Youth Forum [VIDEO]

Commonwealth Youth Forum takes place 19-21 June with the theme Taking Charge of our Future. With 1.4 billion #Commonwealth citizens under the age of 30, #CYF is an opportunity for young people to help shape the future.

At #CYF, young people can build cross-cultural connections and networks, deliberate on youth-led initiatives addressing emerging issues impacting young people, strategise on perspectives to influence decision makers, and ensure young people have a voice and agency. 

The CYF provides intergenerational spaces to enhance Commonwealth youth's ability to bring forward meaningful recommendations to the Heads of Government meeting. The Forum will also include opportunities for plenary discussions and action planning breakout sessions, focused around #CHOGM2022 themes.
