The sacrifices made that day, and in the days that followed, were profound. Thousands laid down their lives, and countless others bore the physical and emotional scars of battle.

The Commonwealth is home to one-third of the world's population and includes both advanced economies and developing countries.

It was no coincidence that youth leaders from all over the Commonwealth were given the opportunity to come to London to network, collaborate and be inspired at the Commonwealth Youth Leaders' Summit, held in March 2023. This year has been designated as the Year of the Youth by the Commonwealth Heads of Government at the last CHOGM in Rwanda. 

The Commonwealth Secretary-General, Rt Hon Patricia Scotland KC, has raised the Commonwealth Flag for Peace at a ceremony in London on Commonwealth Day.

A commemoration for the men and women from the Commonwealth who served with the British Armed Forces during the First and Second World Wars was held today at the Memorial Gates in central London.

Young people in countries across the Commonwealth will raise a “Flag of Peace” to celebrate and mark Commonwealth Day on March 13, 2023. The initiative is supported by the Commonwealth Secretariat, the Queen's Commonwealth Trust, the Royal Commonwealth Society and Bruno Peek, Pageantmaster.

Commonwealth member states are being invited to support the Commonwealth of Nations Flag for Peace initiative across the Commonwealth ahead of Commonwealth Day 2023 which will be the first presided over by His Majesty King Charles III’ as King and Head of the Commonwealth.
